This past weekend, I took my first trip to the newly-opened Bite Macarons in the West University area. It’s actually a very interesting story how I found out about this place. One of the girls I follow on Instagram posted a photo of the store when it officially opened and after screen-shotting the photo and quickly skimming a few reviews on Yelp, I was immediately excited to try it out. Though my mom is quite satisfied making her own macarons, I insisted we try out Bite Macarons at least once.
Bite Macarons is located in a prime location and we walked into an open, airy atmosphere with simple + modern decor.
My first impressions came from how the macarons were displayed. They were neatly lined up so colorfully! More importantly, we were welcomed with such a friendly, inviting staff…I continued to ramble on about how great they were even after we left.
Needless to say, I was not disappointed! I loved it so much the first time I went, I went back the next day with a few friends. The first time I dropped in, I bought three for myself and gifted another three. I tried the Sea Salt Caramel, Early Grey, and Passion Fruit and gifted the Raspberry, Blood Orange, and Jasmine.
The next day, I treated a friend to a dozen as a small gift and she graciously let me try a few with my cup of oolong tea.
I’d say the macarons slightly varied in regards to the consistency, density, and texture depending on the flavor. Out of the few I tried, I thought the Earl Grey was quite dense whereas the Passion Fruit and Lemon leaned towards the lighter, crispier side. But I loved the buttery Sea Salt Caramel and the tangy Blood Orange! Both were perfectly light and chewy and delicious in flavor. Little bites of joy!
Bite Macarons is on the higher end of the price scale (at $2.25 each and a dozen for $25 to give you an idea), so they’re definitely not something I’d eat every day. But again, this place specializes in macarons and their pricing is similar to a few other stores in the greater Houston area. And not all of us are blessed with macaron-baking talents, so on occasion, I guess it’s ok to spend a little and taste a few!
I highly recommend giving Bite Macarons a go if you’re in the mood to sit down, have a nice cup of afternoon tea/coffee, and splurge on some delectable sweets with good company. In past experience, macarons have also made great gifts. Overall, I loved the inviting atmosphere and the distinct flavors of their macarons. I hope to see more yummy flavors in the near future the next time I visit.
