Elizabeth Street Cafe

Brunch is the perfect excuse to eat breakfast, lunch, and dessert in one sitting. If it wasn’t Monday morning and I didn’t have class, I would be eating brunch right now. I finally had the chance to try Elizabeth Street Cafe with some other Austin bloggers and photographers (the ladies behind The Autumn Girl, You’ve Been Reesed, Kelsey Butler Photography, and Austin Moms Blog), and we had a delicious brunch yesterday.

Elizabeth Street Cafe is an upscale Vietnamese + French cafe in South Austin that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s known for its charming in-house bakery with classic French pastries and desserts, as well as their modern spin on Vietnamese phở and bánh mì. We came around 11 am for their brunch, and it got very busy, very quickly!

It was an overcast day, but we still asked to sit outside. We were quickly seated at a cheerful pink + green table (pictured here on my Instagram!), and I knew exactly what I wanted after looking at their brunch menu beforehand. (When eating out with friends, I always try to look at the menu before arriving, so I can spend more time chatting at the restaurant!) Unfortunately, once our food arrived, it started raining! The sweet ladies who worked there made sure we didn’t get wet and moved us to the covered front porch.

After moving locations, I started devouring my house baked brioche French toast. Just look at this!

My French toast was topped with sweetened condensed milk ice cream, blueberry thai basil compote, and brown butter syrup. I enjoyed every single sweet bite of toast with the three toppings swirled together. This might be the best French toast I’ve ever eaten.

I highly recommend going to Elizabeth Street Cafe just to eat their French toast, but I know there are lots of things to try on their other menus, too! I grew up in Houston where there is lots of delicious (and cheap) Vietnamese food, so I’ve had my fair share of really tasty bánh mì sandwiches, but I think I will have to go back to try one at Elizabeth Street Cafe! Austin folks, have you ever been to Elizabeth Street Cafe? If you have, what should I order next time? Let me know down below in the comments!
