Thank you to The Ruby Hotel for hosting a complimentary stay. All thoughts & opinions are my own.

Last weekend, I took a staycation trip to The Ruby Hotel in Round Rock. Like you, I’ve been itching to travel this summer. Since COVID-19 stay-home orders started in Austin, I’ve had the privilege of working from home. As much as I’ve enjoyed the experience (more thoughts on that here), I’ve also developed some serious cabin fever cooped up in less than 500 square feet. My apartment has become my workspace, so I’m constantly surrounded by visual cues of work. I’ve been hoping to get away and retreat somewhere else since then.

I was craving something quiet, serene, and peaceful, and The Ruby Hotel was the first place that came to mind. The property is a quick 15-minute drive just north of Austin, located in a quiet, residential neighborhood on a creek. The charming, historic downtown Round Rock is just around the corner. Oh, and famous and well-loved Round Rock Donuts. I’m so glad I had a chance to retreat there. If you need an option for a safe getaway trip outside of Austin, The Ruby Hotel might be an option for you. Here’s how my getaway went:
The Ruby Hotel Check-In Process
When I arrived on Friday afternoon, The Ruby Hotel took me through contactless check-in via text. It allowed me to walk straight to my room and unlock the door with a security code. They also answered all my questions from pool reservations to parking through my phone.

Jewel-Tone Rooms
Every room at The Ruby is beautifully-designed in jewel-tone colors with its own unique findings and artwork inspired by their branding. I love The Ruby Story, where the hotel was inspired by a love letter addressed to a “Dearest Ruby” on the property before hosting any guests.

Good hotel sheets are one of my favorite things in the world. I’m now eyeing on some Parachute linens of my own after this trip. Quick tip: I recommend getting a “Creekside View” room, so your room faces Brushy Creek. It was glorious waking up to a serene view of the trees, birds, and water.

The Ruby Hotel Bar
The best part of The Ruby Hotel is the Ruby Bar—hands-down. I’ve had the pleasure of staying at The Ruby Hotel a few times now, and every time I’ve visited, The Ruby Bar never disappoints. The bartenders are so hospitable, warm, and friendly. The cocktails. The food. I mean…

Pre COVID-19, a breakfast bar existed at The Ruby Bar complete with Round Rock Donuts. Now brunch is served on the weekends on a socially-distant patio. Guests can also bring food into the rooms, which is exactly what I did. Brunch on a private patio facing the water? Not what I expected, but exactly what I needed.
My Thoughts on Getting Away During COVID-19
The weekend presented itself with my ultimate comfort favorites: take-out food, movies in bed, and quiet time painting, reading, and journaling next to the water. I know everyone has varying comfort levels when it comes to traveling this season. I was eager to find a spot to get away from the hustle of working from home, so I took the risk while trying to be as cautious as possible.
I can confidently say that I felt comfortable, but if you’re feeling hesitant, do your research and make your best judgment. I hope you feel inspired to take some time for yourself!
