Every person deals with stress differently. If I’m not feeling my best, I can usually be found in a comfy pair of PJs, eating large pieces of dark chocolate and/or treating myself to a face mask. I don’t know what it is about pampering myself with face masks, but I find that even just a few minutes of laying in bed with one on can make the world of difference after a long day. I make time for them at least once a week and as needed if my skin is acting up. I’ve gathered quite the collection of masks over the years, but these below are my favorites:
1. For Acne: Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask to Clear Pores
If I’m spotty or feeling oily around that time of the month, this mask does the trick. It draws out dirt and absorbs excess oil from my skin with the help of charcoal. This mask is also great for overnight spot treatment! Just a dab will shrink blemishes and make them easier to conceal in the morning.
2. For Dullness: Peter Thomas Roth Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
This mask uses chemical and physical exfoliants to brighten dull skin. It only takes a few minutes to dry and leaves a tingling sensation on my face. When I rinse it off, my skin feels more polished and radiant. This mask also smells so good – like pumpkin pie!
3. For Sensitive Skin: LUSH BB Seaweek Mask
BB Seaweed has been a favorite of mine for years, and it’s my mask of choice if I’m having girlfriends over, because it works well on everyone. It uses seaweed and finely ground almond to exfoliate, but also gentle ingredients like aloe, honey, and olive oil to effectively soothe and moisturize sensitive skin.
4. For Irritation/Redness: Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber Gel Mask
Clearly I’m a fan of Peter Thomas Roth! I love being outside, so this mask works extremely well when I’ve been under the sun all day, and I feel like my skin is burned and parched. It has soothing ingredients like chamomile, cucumber, and aloe to help tone done redness and moisturize my skin. I keep this guy in the fridge, because the gel texture feels especially nice when it’s cold. This mask is great for the summer months coming ahead.
5. For Dryness: Acure Cell Stimulating Facial Mask
This mask is the most fun to use out of all the ones on this list. It has an odd smell, but a very interesting, green color and slippy texture when I wash it off my face. The French green clay cleans out my skin, and the argan and seabuckthorn oils leaves me feeling moisturized and glowy. I have normal/dry skin, and I love using this one on my cheeks where my skin has dry patches.
6. For Everything: Wedderspoon Manuka Honey
Honey? Yeah, it’s not exactly meant for topical use, but I’ve included it in this list, because there really is nothing like Manuka honey for skin. If I were to keep one mask out of all of these, it would be this one, because it does all the above and more. I love it for treating blemishes, hydrating my dry skin, and toning down redness. Honey is known to have antibacterial and moisturizing properties, but manuka honey is especially concentrated and great for all uses. It has a different smell and texture and can be more expensive than regular honey, but it’s definitely worth it in my book!
