During that weekend, we went to church and celebrated a really fun third birthday pool party/brunch. Somehow, my sister and I also found time to watch the original Bring It On movie! Oh boy, it really was a perfect weekend and a little reminder I really need to go home more often.
Being an engineering major proves to have its ups and downs. Even without any major exams this last month of October, professors still managed to give us quite the load of homework, and it kept me pretty occupied during the week. By “pretty occupied”, I mean sometimes I stayed in the engineering building for 12 hours at a time. October was a month where I got to squeeze in some much-needed R&R, proving once again that Lesson #3 from last month’s favorites holds true!

Looking back on this month, I actually found time to squeeze in lots of activities out of my norm. The first and most exciting thing I looked forward to this month was going home to see my family! It was my first time back since I moved out for the semester and the trip was such a sweet, refreshing break from school. I arrived back home on a Friday, and I basically spent all weekend long eating fruit and my mom’s delicious food (shown below!) to my heart’s content, sharing lots of laughs with my sister, and playing with our family friends’ cute little ones until I had to leave on Sunday afternoon.

Last month, I also attended my first UT Gymnastics club practice. I’d been curious about joining since my first day of college, but because of my major injury, I was too nervous to step foot into a gym again, let alone actually practice any skills. I decided to try it out and take it really slow, and guess what?! I proved to myself I can still do a few flips! No, it’s nowhere close to what I used to do, but getting over my fear and feeling the adrenaline rush of flipping again was exactly what I needed. I slept really well that night, and unsurprisingly, my body hated me the next morning. I’m hoping to go back again soon, but I know I’ll need to be extra careful! A few other interesting things I did this month out of my norm included going to a concert by The Fray + American Authors at ACL Live, rising early to study at Vintage Heart Coffee with a close friend, eating/chatting over never-before-tried restaurants with one of my best friends and taking more impromptu afternoon bike rides to The Texas Capitol. (By the way, those bike rides = the best way to knock me out when I hit the sack). This month, I also did a little experiment where I went vegetarian. If y’all are interested, I’ll share my thoughts on that!
October was the much-needed break I needed, and I’m grateful for the fun things I got to experience. Unfortunately with every calm comes a storm, and I’m bracing myself for this one. But first…some exciting news! I’ll be flying up north tomorrow in special partnership with a company you just might be familiar with! I can’t wait to show y’all where I’ll be headed.
